Resort On Our Radar: Almyra Hotel, Cypress

Travellers' Robe blog The Journal - Almyra Hotel, Paphos Cypress

It only took one look at Almyra Hotel’s spectacular rooftop terraces for me to know I wanted to see more of this Cypriot property’s modern design. Sitting atop the hotel’s Kyma Suites are great sun-bathed lounging areas in a palette of crisp white on white, looking out over half-height walls to the glorious Mediterranean Sea beyond.

Almyra Hotel is seated on the walled seafront of the ancient city of Paphos, on Cyprus’ southwest coast. Paphos holds a special place in mythology, as the mythical birthplace of the Greek goddess of love and beauty – Aphrodite. And beauty certainly abounds here in the modern design of Almyra Hotel, a family-friendly destination for a chilled-chic summer getaway on the Mediterranean.

The property, originally constructed in the 70s, was revamped in a big way in the early 2000s and relaunched as Almyra in 2003. At the helm of its internal redesign was the deft hand of Parisian Interior Designer Joelle Pleot.  Clean lines abound, not only pulling you in but also drawing the eye out to sea. The flat rooflines and crisp angles of Almyra’s white structures are striking amongst its 8 acres of windswept coastal gardens.

The soothing rooms and suites are dressed in rejuvenating shades of white, along with a few timber and natural finishes, and one gentle pop of colour—pale duck-egg-blue cushions. I love the way natural light floods in through floor-to-ceiling glass (a design feature used throughout many different areas of the property).

The lobby features gathering spaces of low-lying furniture in chocolate and cream tones, and a moment of grandeur care of the stunning white stone spiral staircase with glittering chandeliers above.

You can take your pick of a number of pools… particularly gorgeous are the main pool, with a billowy white canopy draped above, and the adults only infinity pool in the spa precinct, with nothing but sea and sky in your sights.

And there’s a spot of true perfection for you to enjoy a local specialty – at Ouzeri Restaurant – on the deck, right on top of the waves, with just a rope dividing this sweet dining room from the sea.

Take a look at the exquisite coastal style of Almyra in the shots below.
